Powder River Energy Corporation

Powder River Energy Corporation (PRECorp) is Northeastern Wyoming's preferred energy source, serving more than 12,000 members with reliable and affordable electric service. The innovative team at PRECorp realized how much extreme weather impacted operations in their very large service territory but quality weather data was woefully scarce. PRECorp first partnered with WeatherFlow-Tempest to deploy a network of weather stations at each electric sub-station in the region. Then they promoted the sale of Tempest Weather Systems to their electric members at a discount. Within a few months, northeast Wyoming is now covered in quality weather data which the PRECorp field ops and demand forecasting teams access via TempestOne to make daily weather related decisions.

Blue Ridge Energy

Blue Ridge Energy is a cutting edge member-owned electric cooperative in eastern North Carolina leading the way with cost saving solutions to benefit their members. Due to the complex topography in eastern North Carolina, the team at Blue Ridge was looking for an efficient way to monitor variable weather conditions across their region. Blue Ridge partnered with WeatherFlow-Tempest to access the wealth of existing weather data available immediately from the Tempest Network. They also rolled out a program to promote Tempest Weather Systems to their members with simple promotions via social media and monthly marketing communications. Now there are literally dozens and dozens of real time weather observations in every neighborhood in the region (where the National Weather Service only had a few). The teams at Blue Ridge use TempestOne to access all the data and forecasting to better understand extreme weather such as line icing, lightning strikes, heating and cooling demand -- resulting in more efficient operations ultimately saving the members money while keeping the community safer.

Florida Keys Electric Cooperative

The Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) utility serves 33,000 customers in the Upper and Middle Keys - a very unique region for sure. FKEC originally contracted with WeatherFlow Networks to install professional grade weather observing stations off the coastal waters to measure strong storms including hurricanes. When the Tempest Home Weather System was introduced, FKEC was one of the first utility providers in the country to offer weather stations to their customers in an effort to gain better understanding of the micro-climates along the Florida Keys. All data from the WeatherFlow Networks professional stations as well as the Tempest Network is actively quality controlled by WeatherFlow then made available in a consistent and consolidated manner via the TempestOne Ops Console and via the Tempest API. This super set of weather data provides critical real-time weather conditions and enhanced point-specific forecasting to help save energy and resources both at the home level and at scale regionally.

Deploy a Community Weather Network

High winds, wildfire risk, lightning, heavy rain, sub-zero temperatures, and ice storms are just a few of the weather impacts that can be managed to better serve commercial and residential customers when weather becomes a factor.

We deliver neighborhood-level weather data necessary to help utilities anticipate demand, mitigate risk to infrastructure, and restore service as quickly as possible after impact, all while considering the safety of field crews during significant weather events.

Help your customers save energy
